One of the classic treatments used during the surface cleaning of metals is
sandblasting. It is usually an intermediate treatment, but in our case it is actually used as a
final treatment. It consists of a mechanical process with which the surface layer of a metal is eroded through abrasion done using a fine jet of sand and compressed air.
After this process the
surface has a
pleasant velvety feel and an
aesthetically opaque appearance.
At the same time, the resistance of the material remains unchanged.
We use this treatment on
stainless steel,
brass and
aluminium, but not on iron, to avoid contamination of the above metals, which are more valuable.
